Oklahoma Energy Center

Nestled between the border of Moore and Norman, Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Energy Center would provide a place for students to learn about forms of alternative energy and should disaster strike, house over 100 people safely within a FEMA rated storm shelter. This Center would provide educational spaces, research facilities and offer a wide area to allow field testing experiments to take place. A major factor of this facility is that that the large solar grid will provide not only enough power to run itself, but also give back to the city grid. Along with that, this building has the capability of storing energy in a large Energy Vault. This system utilizes no batteries to store energy and functions off of stored potential energy. This entire system could be utilized during post-severe weather events to provide electricity to critical systems such as the nearby hospital. In all this project explores ideas of sustainability and ecological design. Below are the final presentation boards submitted to the Committee of the Environment Student Competition.
